How We Teach |
All YPLS teaching strategies build on the foundation of what you know already. Students learn cooperatively as well as one-to-one with their teachers. We develop language skills based on your experience and your specific goals.
Thematic approach
We focus on specific themes such as socital rules or media studies to teach vocabulary, sentence structure, social skills, and critical thinking in your new language.
Content-based approach
We will teach the specific skills and language you need to learn science, mathematics and history in English.
Experiential approach
Students continue to learn English in real-world experiences with our After-School Learning program and on additional school outings.
Skills for Success
At YPLS, we do more than teach English. Students also learn the social and cultural skills required to feel comfortable and be successful in Canadian schools and universities. These include:
Tools
The Young People's Language School uses a wide range of instructional materials and resources, including the most up-to-date textbooks in English and other subject areas, magazines and newspapers.
We also use computer-assisted language learning. The YPLS language lab has 12 to 15 state-of-the-art computers. They are Internet-connected so that students can use email to write home to their family and friends. Our classrooms are also equiped with SmartBoard technology, providing teachers and students the ability to incorporate thousands of useful language learning applications into daily lessons.
