TOEFL Test FAQs

Q How do I register for the TOEFL iBT?

You can register for the TOEFL iBT test online.

Q What type of ID do I need to bring on the day of the test?

Your ID requirements depend upon the country of your citizenship and the country in which you plan to test. Please read the specific information you were provided at the time of registration. Testing outside your country of citizenship, you must present your passport as your primary identification document. If you do not meet ID requirements, ETS may automatically cancel your test scores.

Q Do I need to bring anything on the day of the test?

You need to bring your passport or acceptable alternate IDs, if applicable, and a copy of your registration confirmation.

Q What else do I need to know about the check-in procedures on the day of the test?

Arrive on time - your confirmation sheet will outline the reporting time. You will be asked to wait in our school lounge until the Test Center Administrator begins the check-in procedures. Test takers are advised to go to the bathroom prior to the check-in. You will be briefed on all rules and regulations of the test, and your questions relating to the testing procedures will be answered. The check-in for TOEFL iBT involves verifying your personal linformation, checking your ID, and taking a digital picture of you. No jackets, bags, purses, papers, pens, pencils, cell phones or other electronic equipment are allowed in the testing room. Personal belongings cannot be accessed during the exam or the break.

Q Can I use my own pen and paper for notes during the test?

No. Each test taker will receive exactly 3 sheets of coloured paper and one pencil, all of which must be returned to the proctor or the administrator at the end of the test. If test takers need extra sheets of paper or a new pencil, they must exchange the previously used ones.

Q What time will I finish the test?

Each person proceeds through the test at a different pace. Some people finish earlier and others finish later. Technical difficulties may also delay the test. Test takers can expect to spend anywhere from 4 to 7 hours (including briefing, check-in and test taking) at the test administration site.

Q Is there parking on site?
